The Six Nations gets off to a great start in Dublin
The Six Nations kicked off in style this weekend. One of the highlights of this annual rugby tournament is when England take on Ireland, especially when they play in Dublin.
The city is only a short flight away for England supporters and it has a brilliant atmosphere. Even for the less die-hard rugby fans, Dublin is a fabulous place for a city break. Whether you want to head to the match, or just enjoy the vibe and some shopping, there is plenty on offer.
The Six Nations is a highlight of the sporting calendar and takes place ahead of the British Social Season. As usual, it was a sellout crowd at the Aviva Stadium, where spectators saw Ireland finish with a well-deserved victory over England.

For those planning a future trip for a club or international match in Dublin (it’s a must!), we have some insider tips of the best places to visit before and after the rugby.
Whether you are in town to watch Ireland play or visiting for a Leinster match, Grafton Street will be absolutely buzzing on a rugby day. There are some great shops, including individual boutiques and the likes of Brown Thomas, as well as live musicians.
Meanwhile, when it comes to food, Davy Byrnes is an institution. This is a renowned social hotspot and an excellent place to enjoy a few drinks or a bite to eat before heading to the ground. Davy Byrnes has a reputation for serving quality food and drink with a charming atmosphere. The shared platters are delicious and great for sharing with friends. It is an ideal place to visit for a late lunch, before making your way towards Ballsbridge.

When on the way to the stadium, you will more than likely come across Slattery’s, which is just a three-minute walk from the Aviva. This is a really popular pub for sports fans and it attracts the crowds who are on their way to the stadium and also those leaving afterwards. It is packed, both before and after the rugby, but well worth squeezing in for a drink.
Once the action on the pitch is over, most people will head back towards the city centre. There are a plethora of pubs and restaurants. For those who like Guinness, you can’t beat O’Donoghue’s. Live music and excellent pints keep everyone entertained in this acclaimed pub.

Then, you have a pick of restaurants nearby on Merrion Row, which is a lovely part of town. Hugo’s, BANG and The Shelbourne are only a few steps away. You can also venture to Dawson Street easily and enjoy the bars there.
