RHS Chelsea: David Austin launches the Roald Dahl rose
Yesterday David Austin hosted a private party at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show to announce the launch of several new roses. Guests gathered at the David Austin rose display to sip Bollinger champagne and admire ‘Roald Dahl’.
This free-flowing variety comes in a pretty peach colour and the rose marks 100 years since the birth of the world’s number one storyteller. The rose has further special meaning because a percentage of the sales will go towards helping Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
The Roald Dahl rose is repeat flowering and it has a delicious fragrance. Although it appears very delicate, the rose is actually tough enough to withstand the elements and it is also very healthy.
The David Austin rose garden at the show is well worth visiting and you can admire a whole host of varieties. Extravagant blooms are mixed with delicate and elegant roses to create a haven of colour and beautiful scent within the Grand Pavilion at RHS Chelsea.
It is David Austin’s 90th birthday year and there were also two other roses also launched during the reception. ‘Imogen’ has soft yellow petals and ‘Bathsheba’ is a new fragrant climbing rose.
