Although the current ski season in the Alps is approaching its latter phase, there is still time to escape to the slopes for an action-packed weekend on the snow.

Hotel Le Blizzard is one of the premier venues in the village of Val d’Isere and the luxury hideaway offers typical mountain accommodation, which a chic twist. Wooden panelling, roaring fires and country-inspired décor all ensure that it is a desirable place to stay.

The hotel is located in the heart of the Esapce Killy and it is a popular choice for those looking to enjoy an unforgettable ski experience. Throughout the winter months, it is fully booked and this was the case during our stay. With private shuttles to the slopes – which are also walking distance – and the centre of the village on the doorstep, this hotel has an unbeatable location.

It also caters for those who prefer to mix in a healthy amount of relaxation during their trip. The spa is very impressive and includes an outdoor pool, substantial hot tub that is illuminated in a mesmerising shade of blue, a sauna, steam room and very appealing relaxation area. In fact, the relaxation area is so calming that you will definitely find yourself drifting off for a snooze in the afternoon.

If you plan on venturing to Val d’Isere in the next couple of months, a visit to La Folie Douce and its impressive restaurant, La Fruitiere, is essential. The chef, Franck Mischler proudly creates new delights for the menu at every opportunity and makes the most of local cuisine. There is also a grand wine cellar which includes some of the best vintages and the neighbouring farms provide suitable cheese to pair with certain bottles.

The restaurant is a hidden gem as most people associate La Folie Douce with skiers dancing on tables to club tunes and music pumping out throughout the mountains. This part of La Folie Douce is definitely a fun experience for friends at times and the VIP area has now been revamped. It is known as the Veranda and includes a sheltered area, under floor hearing, a separate entrance and elaborate décor.

However, those looking to enjoy a serene break rather than a party atmosphere will probably prefer to stay within the surroundings of Hotel Le Blizzard. The cosy bar area is really social with a more relaxed Après vibe.

The majority of Val d’Isère is located within France’s oldest national park, the Vanoise National Park. It is renowned for its beauty during the snow season and the warmer summer months. It boasts beautiful lakes and mountain scenery. As the year progresses, Val d’Isère and Tignes join forces to offer incredible lift access for mountain bikers.

With this in mind, the resort is not limited to winter sports breaks alone. The area is open throughout the spring and summer months and offers a great retreat for those looking to enjoy hiking, mountain biking or simply an indulgent spa weekend at Hotel Le Blizzard.
