Week 38 and counting…

It is at this point in pregnancy when you really feel as though you can begin to get excited. It is nearly time for the big moment and it could happen at any point. Although there is a certain amount of anxiety that you experience in the final few weeks, this is overcome with the feeling of excitement at the thought of finally meeting your little one. It has been a long time coming!

These are also the last few days or weeks that you can spend some time indulging yourself. While I have been super busy throughout my pregnancy I have also taken some ‘down time’ in order to give myself some extra TLC at times.

Among the highlights have been a Liz Earle facial by the wonderful Abigail James. I visited the flagship Liz Earle store in Chelsea several weeks ago to enjoy a bespoke treatment. I am probably Liz Earle’s number one fan and I adore the skincare products. They work wonders for my skin and it feels like I have my own facial every time that I use the Cleanse and Polish at home. Abigail was also excellent during the treatment at explaining all about pregnancy and birth in general, as well as how to look after your skin while all the hormonal changes are taking place.

I left feeling completely revitalised and my skin was in excellent condition. I have since been using the products at home every day and they make such a difference. Abigail recommended the Superskin Eye Cream as particularly handy for the days after birth as it helps counter the signs of sleepless nights.

One of the other ‘Me time’ highlights, or should I say ‘Our time’ because I shared this with my husband, was our Babymoon. This is something I would definitely recommend doing for couples expecting a baby and we snuck off to a secret destination for some rest and relaxation before I was too far into the pregnancy to be eligible to fly.

There is another destination that is featured in our travel pages that I would love to recommend for a Babymoon and this is the Kempinski Bahia. This luxury hotel is located near Marbella and a straightforward drive from the airports in either Gibraltar or Malaga.  The spa is incredible and they have an excellent massage that is available specifically for pregnant women. The hotel boasts beautiful furnishings and an enormous pool garden, which includes three different swimming pools and access to the sea, which is only steps away. It is easy to navigate when you are heavily pregnant and the flight time is also not too long. The destination is peaceful, sunny, sophisticated and has everything you need on hand.

Ahead of the birth I am now just spending some time relaxing and enjoying the occasional dinner out with my husband. We are also busy doing a final check list to make sure that we have all the essentials ready in the event that Baby decides to come a little early. In general, this is a really special time in pregnancy and one of the nice parts. I personally feel very tranquil – I guess this is the calm before the storm!

Until next time,
