On the 18th and 19th of September, ticket holders for Cocktails in the City will try some of the capital’s best drinks in a whirlwind of spirits and recipes.

The taster evening for this drink-filled extravaganza was an absolute delight, with a wide range of cocktails to suit every taste. With the experts explaining the history behind each cocktail as they made it, drink aficionados had every question answered, making the event a learning experience as well as a tasting one.

Cocktails

Cocktails in the City will give people a tour of the capital’s best tipples

Amazing spirits were teamed with fantastic cocktail creators, with delicious black raspberry liqueur Chambord being paired with the wacky Alchemist bar’s top talent. Some vermouth, some Finlandia grapefruit vodka, and a dash of dry ice made this “Loire Lady” cocktail something really otherworldly.

Bootlegger white grain spirit was expertly handled by the team at Steam & Rye, whose Americana chic turned the spirit, egg white, grenadine, Absinthe and lemon juice into a fantastic cocktail called “Fly Me To The Moon.” With a paper aeroplane garnish, this fun cocktail was a tingling reminder of the Prohibition.

The Breakfast Club’s mint and coconut cocktail, the “Rocket Man”, should soon be served up at new outlet Call Me Mr Lucky. Made with a zing, this cocktail is a perfect example of a refreshing summer drink, containing white tequila, white Crème de Cacao, a handful of rocket, three mint leaves precisely, coconut water and a smidgeon of lemon bitters.

Whitley Neill’s fabulous gin, inspired by Africa and the drinks of the colonial era, packed quite the kick but was beautifully fashioned into an inspiring cocktail by Lost & Co’s experts. Guests were treated to a “reload” of the cocktail in quaint glass holders with stoppers.

The lively evening finished with a healthy helping of a stunning rum punch, tinged with the unusual ingredient of basil water.

Bubble Dogs

Bubble Dogs will provide the catering for the September events

At the September Cocktails in the City events, Bubble Dogs – London’s favourite bubbles-and-sausage combo – will be providing the catering, with Harvey Nichols beauty treats and DJs from Horse Meat Disco.

It will certainly be one of the events of the summer, and is not to be missed. If you want to try Mayfair’s best 5* recipes, Shoreditch’s hip mixes, or retro drinks from eras past, this is the hot ticket for September.
