The weather was beautiful for the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival 2018 and the start of the British social calendar, Sloaney Season.

Racegoers made their way to the Cotswolds for the famous jump racing extravaganza that will be unfolding over the next few days. Despite a wet run up to this year’s event and concerns about the going, spring was certainly in the air as soon as the gates opened.

The atmosphere was vibrant and everyone was in high spirits. Among the early attendees were Zara and Mike Tindall, Princess Anne, AP McCoy and various well-known owners. The Unibet Champion Hurdle proved to be an excellent race and Barry Geraghty rode Buveur d’Air to a nail-biting victory.

Fashion will be a highlight tomorrow as ladies try to win the Best Dressed competition by adding a splash of colour to their attire.
