Frerejean Freres Champagne Launches in the UK in time to toast the forthcoming season
With the British Summer Social Season on the horizon there is probably no better time to welcome a new selection of champagne to our shores! Adding a bottle of bubbles to your picnic for the polo or racing is essential and we love the idea of discovering a new gem, rather than always sticking with the traditional favourites.
Frerejean Freres Champagne has just arrived to the UK and it has some impressive credentials. Aged for five years, this champagne is produced entirely from premier cru grapes. It scores highly in the quality stakes and has become known as one of the most exciting of the region.
The Frerejean Freres champagne house was launched by the Frerejean-Taittinger brothers. The champagne originates from the Côte des Blancs and the premier cru village of Grauves, which is located just south of Epernay. One of the most distinctive facts about Frerejean Freres is that it has been aged for over a five-year period in the cellar. This contributes to the excellent quality and elegant taste, which we sampled over the Easter weekend. Our verdict is that this champagne is ideal for those who enjoy a light and fresh tipple during the summer months.
The Cuvee des Hussards is a luxurious ‘Blanc de Blancs,’ made from 100% Chardonnay. Its refined and delicate taste can be attributed to the unique plot of vines from which it originates in the Cote de Blancs. The FJF Brut Premier Cru combines three grapes, 50% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 20% Meunier, to create a complex but not complicated wine. The FJF Extra Brut is composed of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in equal part, aged for eight years and the first production of this unique 2006 vintage was limited to 2,000 bottles.
Although Frerejean Freres is new to stores, it has already proven popular at some of the high-society events in Britain. It has been served on special occasions in the likes of Ham Polo Club and Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair, as well as at certain Asprey celebrations. So it comes as great news that you can now easily order it for your dinner party or summer picnic.
Frerejean Freres champagne is available in the UK through Adnams Cellar & Kitchen Shops as well as through wine specialist Winechap. Several new openings in London have chosen Frerejean Frères as their leading Champagne including Margaux in South Kensington and Villandry in St. James’s.
