The Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in Knightsbridge has partnered with top chef, Eric Lanlard to create a delicious Afternoon Tea that really embraces the holiday spirit.

The Sloaney team recently visited the plush surroundings of the five star hotel, which is located a stone’s throw from one of our favourite department stores Harrods, to sample the delectable treats.

With stylish seasonal decorations and a live harpist playing Christmas carols, the luxury destination offers guests a wonderful place to relax during the latter part of December.

The Afternoon Tea is a real delight and this is served in the Chinoiserie. It includes a host of treats with exquisite detail that is suited to the festivities, such as handmade chocolate Christmas trees and a liquor pop cake that is decorated to resemble a Christmas pudding. A festive black or green tea is available and both options are infused with rich spices.

Served on a stylish tray, the first course includes miniature helpings of turkey alongside cinnamon-spiced brioche with chicken liver parfait. Chestnuts and red onion marmalade also feature and the smoked salmon roll with egg mayonnaise is filling but also delicate.

The mini cakes and sweet treats are presented as the second course; however, we skipped straight to the scones in order to save these until last. The scones are as good as any that you will find in a five star venue and they are accompanied by generous helpings of cream and strawberries.

Although the scones are delicious, you must make sure you save some space for the fabulous selection of cakes. The raspberry tartlet is topped with fresh berries and the eggnog trifle shot with mulled wine jelly, spicy cranberry compote, eggnog custard and smooth mascarpone cream is another highlight. The edible Christmas decorations that adorn the tray are also irresistible.

The festive Afternoon Tea is a magical experience from start to finish. The refined surroundings are complemented by an extremely polite team of waiters and the menu captures the holiday spirit.   It is perfect for a pre-Christmas gathering with friends or a special occasion to enjoy with your mother. Pink and white Taittinger is available by the glass for those who want to enjoy a seasonal toast.

The festive afternoon tea by Eric Lanlard is available at Chinoiserie throughout the Christmas season and costs £40 per person; £50 per person with a glass of champagne or £55 with a glass of rosé champagne.
