Festive celebrations are fast approaching. Christmas week is on the horizon and New Year’s Eve parties will be following quickly afterwards. For those looking to explore some red wines during the holiday season, in our latest instalment of our Raise A Glass series, we are recommending Domaine Bousquet’s Ameri, which is a high altitude organic single vineyard blend.

The Bousquet family benefits from significant winemaking experience, which spans four generations. The family originally arrived from Carcassonne, in the South of France. Named after their co-owner, Ameri is Domaine Bousquet’s flagship wine and Malbec dominated with some Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah all featuring within the blend.

The grapes come from the highest vineyard in the estate (+4,000 feet), where conditions are near-perfect for grapes. At this height, the grapes benefit from intense daytime sunlight and also huge day/night temperature differentials. These factors help to deliver increased levels of sugar, acid, flavour and aromatics.

From a food pairing perspective, this wine would work well with steak and other rich wintery dishes that you may be considering cooking over the coming weeks.

You can purchase this wine for £30 from Davy’s here
