A skiing holiday promises so much for children. Not only is skiing a great skill to learn, but they can also enjoy lots of other activities, while surrounded by a winter wonderland landscape.

Lech is an excellent resort to visit if you are travelling with children and the same can be said for many of the other Austrian ski resorts, which are very family friendly.

Lech is where Princess Diana brought Prince William and Prince Harry when they were first learning to ski. In addition to proudly operating as one of Europe’s most luxurious skiing destinations, there is a strong family focus. This is particularly evident in the small mountain village that is situated above Lech, namely Oberlech.

Most of the finest hotels in Oberlech are family owned. They are only a stone’s throw away from the nursery slopes, which are positioned in the centre of this small village. Oberlech also boasts a beautiful ski school, which provides both individual and group lessons for all levels of skiers.

The Oberlech Ski School is a very special place for children to learn; both the private tuition and group lessons are excellent and all of the instructors speak fluent English. Furthermore, the guides are also on hand to show parents around the resort if needed and they are able to accompany expert skiers who are looking to explore new runs.

The nursery slopes in Oberlech include lots of fun areas as well as some gentle slopes. Meanwhile, the nursery slopes down in Lech are slightly bigger and also worth a visit, once children are confident enough to ski a longer distance.

Once children have graduated to the main mountain, there are some nice blue runs to try. One leads past some resident cows, which love to be stroked. Stopping for a hot chocolate in one of the beautiful hillside huts is a special experience for children too.

Should they wish to take a break from skiing, Oberlech offers plenty of other activities. The toboggan run is extremely popular. Children and adults can use it during the day and it becomes busy at dusk, when the lighting installation illuminates the route. The toboggan run leads down into Lech and it finishes near the Olympic pizzeria, which is a lovely restaurant for all the family to enjoy. In addition to reaching Oberlech by toboggan, you can also enjoy a beautiful walk through the tree line on a prepared path.

Some of the hotels in Lech and Oberlech offer excellent entertainment for children as part of your booking. This can include access to wonderful playrooms, with complementary childcare. Many of the properties, including the Burg Hotel, Burg Vital Resort, Goldener Berg and the Sonnenburg Hotel have swimming pools, with splash time hours.

So, even if your children don’t wish to ski all day, there is plenty for them to enjoy once they come off the slopes.
