As Autumn begins to descend upon us, and we start dreaming of buttery soft knitwear and leather boots, it’s also worth reconsidering your lingerie. With the trends this season being so seductive it is well worth investing in some exquisite sets that will add some glamour, colour and texture to your autumn wardrobe.

‘Gone are the days when lingerie was merely a functional under layer and here are the days that we show it off to the world’ – this is what Rachael Armstrong, Lingerie Buyer at Dublin’s luxury department store Arnotts, told us when we attended their Autumn Winter Preview. Indeed, underwear as outerwear has become a staple trend, although it may be as subtle as a embrodiered silk strap showing from under a slouchy cashmere jumper.

The collections highlighted at the Arnotts show included Triumph,  Elle Macpherson, Passionata and Chantelle. Modelled by Irish beauty Sarah Morrissey, our favourites included the monochrome lace collection by Mimi Holiday and a fushia set in checkerboard lace by Huit 8.

3 Key Trends for AW14

Black Lace

A true lingerie classic, it’s no surprise to see black lace as the main trend for this Autumn Winter. Brands such as Freya and Mimi Holiday updated the look with sheer pannelling, sharper patterns and monochrome contrasts.

Bold Colour

Unwrap neutral outerwear and dull layers  to reveal exotic shades of jade, raspberry, and  Amethyst. Try Huit 8, Cheek Thrills and Passionata for divine versions of this trend.

Neutrals

Whether it’s powder pink, chocolate or platinum Fleur of England (available at Coco de Mer) has our hearts when it comes to the perfect luxurious set in fleshy hues. Taking inspiration from the Georgian buildings of the South West of England the collection includes bespoke embroideries combined with the finest silks.

View and shop the collection at the Arnotts store, which is located at 12 Henry Street, Dublin 1, Ireland  or online at www.arnotts.ie
