There is nothing quite like a day of racing to blow away the Christmas cobwebs. Today, The Sloaney Team ventured to Chepstow Racecourse with Champagne Pommery for the post-Christmas fixture that features the Welsh Grand National. The event is a tradition for many and worth nothing in your diary for future years.

Chepstow Racecourse offers spectators a fantastic view of the parade ring, as well as the finishing posts, which makes it a popular track for both the experienced supporters of this sport and newcomers alike. You can get very close to the action and there is a great atmosphere at the venue.

While it was a foggy start to Chepstow’s final festive meet of the decade, the misty weather certainly didn’t deter the crowds. Racegoers gathered enthusiastically to cheer on the horses and jockeys in the damp conditions.

The hospitality suites were busy with guests enjoying the seasonal cheer and Pommery corks were popping throughout the bars and restaurants. The breaks between races provided the ideal opportunity to browse the pop-up boutiques for the latest winter fashion trends, ahead of next year’s Cheltenham Festival.

On the track, it was Potters Corner who triumphed in the main race of the day, the Welsh Grand National. The Welsh-trained runner thrilled the crowds with a stoic performance, fending off Truckers Lodge.
