Christmas wouldn’t be the same without champagne. This year, champagne is generally in high demand and it isn’t difficult to guess why everyone is keen to enjoy a special toast.

For those who are planning a celebration with family and close friends, Champagne Bruno Paillard 2012 “Assemblage” is a great vintage to mark the occasion. The 2012 “Assemblage” is a blend of Pinot Noir (60%) and Chardonnay (40%) from eight selected cru, of which 20% was fermented in seasoned French oak barrels.

The presentation of the bottle is beautiful and worthy of taking centre stage in your ice bucket during the festive period. As with all its vintage releases, Bruno Paillard has selected an artist to depict the label. To mark the 2012 vintage, a French artist, Claude Viallat, was chosen to design the label according to the theme “furrow”.

2012 was not a straightforward year and it began cold. However, the crop was saved by summer warmth, which followed the early frosts. Despite the challenges, this champagne is impressive. It is charming on the nose and complex on the palette. With different layers, it remains crisp but with an intriguing amount of depth and richer notes also evident.

It is sure to be a conversation starter, as well as a highly enjoyable tipple.
