May has arrived and that means the RHS Chelsea Flower Show is fast approaching. The annual event will welcome a host of visitors later this month and it is one of the most popular soirees to feature in The Sloaney’s British Summer Social Season Guide.

While visitors to the show will be able to admire some amazing gardens and flower displays, flower-show-fever is not just restricted to the event itself. We are thrilled to bring readers news of InterContinental London Westminster’s latest Afternoon Tea offering. The newly launched ‘Edible Garden’ themed Afternoon Tea is utterly fabulous and available to book now and throughout the run up to this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

The Sloaney team recently visited the plush five star hotel to sample some of the treats on the menu. Those who enjoy champagne with their Afternoon Tea will be pleased to learn that the luxury hotel has partnered with Laurent-Perrier to offer free-flowing bubbles throughout your sitting (yes, that is right, your entire sitting!).

The Afternoon Tea itself is created with exquisite tiers of palatable petal savouries and delicate floral fancies that complement Laurent-Perrier’s layered Chelsea garden. While the inspiring savouries are beautifully presented and include a whipped avocado mini shot with raw vegetables, the scones are just as welcome in their fresh and warm presentation.

However, the absolute highlight of the Edible Garden Afternoon Tea is the final serving of pastries. They arrive separately to the previous courses and are arranged within a greenhouse that features edible soil. The delicacies include raspberry curd on a sweet pastry topped with meringue and raspberries, a lemon box hedge which is a light citrus mousse and sponge that has been sprayed in Jivara chocolate and features a white chocolate ladybird, which proved almost too adorable to eat. Last but not least, the strawberry and white chocolate champagne bubble is the perfect accompaniment to your last sip of Laurent-Perrier.

While a glass or two of champagne may prove the perfect treat, the teas accompanying the new offering include Whole Rose Buds (this is particularly enjoyable and has a delicate taste), Blackcurrant and Hibiscus, Lemon Verbena and Flowering Osmanthus and Jasmine Silver Needles.
