Team GB secured its first gold medal of the London 2012 Olympic Games yesterday when rowers, Heather Stanning and Helen Glover, stormed passed the finish line at Eton Dorney. It wasn’t long before a gold rush followed, with Bradley Wiggins becoming Britain’s most decorated Olympian after winning his cycling event later in the day.

As we climb up the medal table, you can join the celebrations by flaunting this summer’s hottest colour. Whether you accessorise with some extra sparkle or opt to add a golden glow to your wardrobe, there is plenty of choice in stores to help you follow this latest trend.

The dropped-waist jacquard dress (£675) by Victoria Beckham’s Victoria label is available exclusively from Net-a-porter. This stylish piece is ideal for a late-summer cocktail party and subtly mixes gold, with silver and black.

The Aurelie Bidermann 18-karat gold-plated enamelled necklace (£2,490) is a wonderful statement piece that echoes an apt Grecian vibe. This accessory will take centre stage and you should ideally work the rest of your outfit around it, by teaming it with simple pieces.

If you are attending a ball this season and want to make a dramatic entrance, this floor length gold leaf dress (£2,450) by Temperley London will prove irresistible. The V-neck line will flatter most figures and you will shimmer the night away in style.

The Soraya flat sandal (£625) by Gina boasts a Swarovski ‘Golden’ diamante finish and will add some sparkle to your step. The comfortable style means you won’t be in a hurry to take this footwear off.

Finally, celebrate the gold rush with a kiss courtesy of the padded lips clutch (£475) by Lulu Guinness. Available exclusively from Harrods, this fun accessory is presented in cracked gold leather.
