Barbour and Paul Smith Jeans Collaborate for Autumn/Winter 12
Leading heritage and lifestyle brand Barbour has teamed up with Paul Smith Jeans to create a limited, concept-based collection for both men and women for this season. Focused on Barbour’s history in the North East, the collection is inspired by the products that have shaped Barbour’s history from shipbuilding, farming, mining and fishing.
One of the key pieces from the men’s collection is the Seafarer. Based on a classic Barbour style, the jacket is constructed in heavy 8oz Beeswax cotton from an Antique sail similar to the original rigged North Sea trawlers.
Inspired by Barbour’s archive of farming garments where layers and colours of wax are used to repair jackets to extend their working life, the Fieldman Trad, in a classic Beaufort style is a celebration of reinforcement and construction excellence. Featuring patches in different wax weights, it has been cleverly designed to look as though the jacket has been well worn.
Meanwhile, the women’s collection sees a playful take on two of Barbour’s most popular styles. The ladies International, belted and multi-pocketed, comes with a colourful lining mixed with red, blue and black polka dots and floral prints interwoven. The Beadnell, which is a jacket of choice for the Festival crowds, comes in a subtle polka dot wax with an interactive liner in bright colours and contrast detail.
Paul Smith was delighted to work with Barbour, commenting, “I have always been a fan of Barbour and this has been a great opportunity to collaborate on a collection that combines the British heritage and identities of both companies”.
