The MINT Polo in the Park Launch marks the start of the summer social season
A champagne brunch was held in the stunning surroundings of the ballroom at the luxurious Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel yesterday to mark the launch of this year’s MINT Polo in the Park. The event has become synonymous with heralding the start of the summer social season and attracts polo fans and high society alike.
With just over a month to go until MINT Polo in the Park, some of the biggest names in the sport gathered in Knightsbridge to toast the forthcoming event. TV presenter, Abi Griffiths, welcomed key players to the stage during the draw for matches as guests sipped Pommery Champagne and sampled a selection of elegant breakfast canapés.
England captain, Jamie Morrison, told The Sloaney he was looking forward to playing in the tournament, which takes place from the 7th to the 9th of June at the prestigious Hurlingham Club; “It is such a unique event and combines the excitement and grit of the sport with the glitz and glamour of the British social scene.” He was keen to encourage those new to the sport to catch a glimpse of the action, “It is great to welcome beginners to polo and they should definitely come and watch. Then give it a go! People can learn from scratch and have a lesson even if they have never previously ridden”.
The event always attracts big crowds with newcomers and regulars attending. Six inter nation teams will be taking part in a fierce, fast-paced, competitive battle to be crowned champions and the competition includes players from around the world. However, this is a particularly monumental year for MINT Polo in the Park, as Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Team Beijing is officially the first Chinese team to play polo on British soil.
