If you have not yet heard about the Fifty Shades Trilogy, then we assume you must have been living on Mars for the last few months. The first installment of the raunchy tale by E L James, Fifty Shades of Grey, recently became the best-selling book of all time in Great Britain. To celebrate this remarkable achievement The Donovan Bar has introduced a new cocktail in recognition of the honeymoon nights spent at Brown’s Hotel by Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. In the final book, Christian Grey whisks his new bride away to “a suite at Brown’s Hotel near Piccadilly” for the first night of his honeymoon.

'A Shade of Grey'

The 'A Shade of Grey' cocktail

Aptly named, ‘A Shade of Grey’, the ingredients of this cocktail have been selected to conger up the passion and excitement of the world-famous fictional couple. The exotic mix includes Chase vodka, Akashi plum sake infused with chilli, fresh passion fruit and lemon juice.

The initial taste is sweet and enticing, but the chilli flavour is a real statement and leaves a red hot aftertaste. Christian Grey would surely approve. To counter the cheeky chilli kick, the cocktail is accompanied by a decadent Lady Grey macaroon that melts in your mouth with every bite.

For those who really want to get into character, you can sit in the ‘naughty corner’ of The Donovan Bar. Here, guests can sip the cocktail whilst surrounded by some of Terence Donovan’s more risque photographs.
