Bella Italia! Ziani’s delivers a hearty, authentic and delicious Italian dining experience
As the last couple of weeks have been a tad chilly and a bit too wet for my liking, I found myself veering away from my bikini body salads and craving something a little heartier. Pasta was the only dish on my mind and I had been dying to try out Ziani’s on Radnor Walk, Chelsea.
After one or two divine Lychee Martini’s in Bluebird, I arrived at Ziani’s a tad late. Luckily my table was still waiting for me; although it was clearly being eyed by the throng of eager opportunists huddled around the tiny bar overlooking the bustling and utterly heavenly smelling restaurant.
After zigzagging my way through the clutter of white linen tables (this restaurant is small but in true Italian style, no space is left unused) I reached my table, which looked out on the dimly lit Radnor Walk.
I began scanning the menu with the upmost enthusiasm. As I waited for my starter to arrive, I watched the waiters, who were aptly vocal, frantically hopping from one table to another in order to deliver mouth-watering dishes.
One thing I love about authentic, family-run, Italian restaurants, is that they like to feed you without delay. Fortunately my starter, Funghi e Capesante, sea scallops sautéed with mushrooms on a bed of rocket, arrived before I had time to demolish the basket of warm, fresh bread that was starring up at me, clearly desperate to be eaten.
The waiter smiled as he took my empty plate and asked if I enjoyed my starter; enjoyed would be an understatement. My main course was the Tris de Pasta, which is the chef’s choice of three different types of pasta. I requested Angel hair pasta with truffles; a simple but utterly delicious plate that I’m sure gave the surrounding guests food envy, only I was too consumed in my meal to notice.
No Italian dining experience would be complete without a Panna Cotta. As someone who is never defeated by a meal, I scooped up all the creamy goodness that effortlessly melted in my mouth and left the restaurant in a state of delirious contentment.
