December has arrived and we have been itching to talk about all things festive for a while (as you can probably tell by some of the sneaky seasonal features that popped up in November)! Now that Advent has begun and the famous Coca Cola advert has hit the airwaves, we can openly share our pre-Christmas excitement.

I visited the stunning Powerscourt Hotel in the Wicklow Mountains last weekend for my latest feature for our travel pages (coming soon). While there was no sign of any snow-capped hills in Glendalough, I did spot possibly one of the most remote Christmas tress on the planet. Fir trees are not an unusual sight when driving through the expansive countryside known as Sally Gap, but one pine had been given a very special (and sparkling) outfit for December that will certainly bring a smile to the faces of tired walkers tackling the Wicklow Way.

The Irish were certainly getting into the spirit of things with the launch of Christmas FM. Sponsored by Vodafone, this radio station can be played worldwide through the web and supports a charity that is particularly close to my heart, Aware. As I have written previously, mental heath charities such as Aware, Mind and the Samaritans carry out important work throughout the year and their role is crucial during the holiday season. For some people, this time of year can be far from a joyous experience.

There are many charities that need extra support over the next few weeks. While it is it easy to get wrapped up in the fun of the festivities, fundamentally, Christmas is a particularly important time of year when it comes to thinking of others and supporting charity initiatives. Whether it is offering to help as a volunteer or simply purchasing your Christmas cards from a charitable organisation, every little bit counts.

One of last month’s highlights was filming at the Private Viewing of David Yarrow’s Encounter in the Saatchi Gallery for Sloaney TV.

His spectacular photography was much admired and his book features on our Christmas Wish List as one of the top gifts to purchase. A charitable donation will be made to Tusk for every copy that is sold; I can assure you it will make a wonderful present.

Our Christmas Wish List is brimming with festive treats from stocking fillers to party accessories and also the more significant gifts – there is plenty of inspiration for our readers.  One of my favourite gifts is the Waterford Crystal Glasses and this brings me onto another highlight of the past month.

I was delighted to receive an invitation to a very intimate celebration at The London EDITION that was held to mark the 15 year partnership between Waterford and John Rocha. I was joined by Katie Ann Lamb and we were greeted at the venue with Ruinart Champagne that was served in beautiful John Rocha at Waterford designs, including Signature, Muse and the new releases, Rian and Ori. The creations are simply stunning and they will make an ideal gift that gives a lasting impression.

The next time I write, Christmas will have passed and we will be moving rapidly towards the New Year. We already have plenty of festive features for you and aside from our ever-popular Wish List (which will receive regular updates), we recently selected some of the top party dresses and recommended the prettiest lipsticks for ladies puckering up under the mistletoe.

At the end of this week, I am venturing to a Christmas Market in Germany, so stay tuned to hear all about it and to carry on enjoying our build up to the big day.
