Looking for a refreshing aftershave for daytime? James Haskell tries Versace’s Eros
I have to say that I am always a little wary of aftershaves and grooming products with sexual connotations in the title. It’s a fine line between keeping the tone on track and becoming something like Sex Panther (Anchorman movie) or a supermarket own-brand such as Satin Night. Or, God forbid, Le Tiger, a dodgy aphrodisiac-based aftershave that just sounds horrific, looks dodgy and smells even worse.
I kid you not, one of the boys in the Wasps shower, passed me Satin Night. It came in a non descript black bottle, with what smelled like the contents of a lady of the night’s handbag!
As I said in my previous features, I can be pretty rigid about what I like but since starting to review certain products for The Sloaney, I believe my repertoire is expanding, which can’t be a bad thing.
I was unwittingly surprised by Versace’s new offering. I have found this latest product really quite refreshing. The scent is based on the combination of mint leaves, Italian lemon zest and green apple.
From an aesthetic point of view (and if I am totally honest) I am not a big fan of the bottle. I don’t think it is as smart as some of the products associated with Versace. Yet, as the saying goes, one should not judge a book by its cover.
The same could be said for an aftershave or an eau de toilette and its bottle.
Due to its fresh and distinct smell, which also channels a certain maturity, Eros sits nicely in the middle brackets of not too young and not too old. I am a little skeptical about picking new things off the shelf, but after trying Eros I would certainly use it again in the future.
In fact, it has bagged a spot in my car as I think it is a good fragrance to use throughout the day. It is great to wear after training or for a meeting. This makes it ideal for people who want to freshen up with an invigorating scent whilst on the go.
